Here Are the Rug Styles Experts Agree Are On Trend

One of the many things we love about natural fiber area rugs is that they allow you to be both stylish and eco-friendly.

While we know what is currently catching our eyes, we recently did some research to confirm if the design community agrees what's in style in terms of rugs. Here's what the experts are saying.

For a House Beautiful article that was published in February 2025, the writer "tapped a handful of industry experts to reveal not only what they're seeing but also what real customers are asking for."

The trends the article revealed began with one that we love, and that natural fiber rugs deliver in spades, warm neutrals

Warm neutrals hits the nail on the head to describe natural jute fiber area rugs. Calming ecru, rich caramel, and toasty golden brown are just a few of the beautiful warm neutral tones available in jute. The article explains that "...our environments play a crucial role in emotional well-being," and warm neutral area rugs provide "a soft, grounding aesthetic that creates a sense of serenity and refuge."

We couldn't agree more.

Another trend the article touches on is washable prints. About this trend, the author says,"...washing-machine-safe rugs are all the rage for families, pet owners, and even those who are just prone to spills." She adds, "There's no time or patience for being overly careful with the items you bring into your house. Homes are meant to be lived in."

Again, agreed! Some of our favorite washable cotton rugs are our quirky and colorful selection of 2' x 3' cotton mats. With graphic themes like  All Arms Octopus. Wondrous Whale, Lucious Lilies, and Floral Seahorse, these washable mats are as fun and eye-catching as they are versatile.

The final trend the House Beautiful article explores is natural fibers. And about that trend, we say enough said ;-)

What the writer shares though is worth noting. She says, "Consumers are paying more attention to what they bring into their homes, including rug materials. All natural fibers like jute and 100 percent wool and recycled materials are becoming the norm rather the the exception."

I guess that means Natural Rug Co. is on trend, because that describes everything we offer!

To double down on the importance of the natural rug trend, an expert interviewed in a recent Stylecaster article says, "Sustainability is really important to customers at the moment, and is a growing consideration when purchasing any kind of textile. This is why I think that natural, eco-friendly materials like jute, wool, and recycled fibers are gaining even more traction - and will be everywhere is 2025."

The article goes on to name geometric and abstract designs as another top 2025 rug trend. The same expert explains, "Statement patterns are on the rise because people want bolder and more personalized decor."

We love a show-stopping graphic and offer quite a few options, especially in wool and silk. We are especially drawn to the area rugs in this geometric hand-tufted wool collection and these two distinctive abstract hand knotted silk rugs.

While we feel using rugs from sustainable, natural fibers is more important than being on trend, we truly love that we can have our cake and eat it too by using natural rug options that are both on trend and eco-friendly. If you're here, we assume you probably do too.
